Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Islam, and most Gulf Arab states have begun celebrating Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

Among those countries beginning the feast were Saudi, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. All began the feast with morning prayers. Yemen will mark the celebration on Sunday. The timing of Eid can vary in different countries depending on the sighting of the new moon, which marks the start of the month in Islam’s lunar calendar.
