An American serviceman has been shot dead and two Italian troops lightly injured after an Afghan soldier opened fire at a military base. It happened at Bala Murghab in western Afghanistan.
Italian Defence Ministry officials believe the attack was deliberate and not a case of friendly fire. A spokesman for NATO-led forces confirmed a US serviceman had died.
It looks like the latest in a string of such incidents.
Last month, an Afghan policeman kiilled five British soldiers at a military compound in southern Helmand province.
