German airline Lufthansa is bracing itself for a tough week as its pilots stage a four-day strike.

It’s expected the majority of the flag carrier’s aircraft will be grounded for the duration of the stoppage, set to last until Thursday.

Experts say two out of three flights will have to be cancelled – at an estimated cost of 100 million euros.

The pilots voted for the action in a month-long ballot over pay and job security. They are asking for a 6.4 percent payrise and guaranteed job security. It’s the first major strike at Lufthansa since 2001.
