Italian police got more than they bargained for when they raided an apartment in Rome looking for illegal substances.

For not only did they find a bumper haul of drugs but they also came across a slippery customer.

A three metres long, albino python which was allegedly guarding 200 grams of pure cocaine.

The creature had apparently been starved for days to make it aggressive. But a generous helping of chicken helped specialist forest police take it into custody – namely the reptile house at Rome’s zoo.

In all, five kilograms of cocaine were seized and 12 people arrested.
