Heavy snowfall affects Europe

world news

Most of the UK is shivering in the grip of an unseasonally early snowfall.

Forecasters say the heaviest accumulations overnight were in northeast England, struggling under a blanket of 15 centimetres.

At the airport, flights have been delayed and cancelled.

But some are making the most of it.

Traffic ground to a halt in many areas of Poland this morning. Warsaw’s Chopin airport had to be closed while the runway was cleared.

Normally renowned for its warm climate, even Portugal is suffering from the snow.

Most of the country is on high alert.

But there is some good news. Heavy rain is expected in Portugal tomorrow and should wash the snow away.
