Royal security review out on Friday

An urgent review of security for Britain’s royal family after last week’s attack on a car carrying the heir to the throne will be completed by Friday, officials say.

Pictures of Prince Charles and wife Camilla open-mouthed in horror as protesters attack their Rolls-Royce en route to the theatre are some of the defining images of the protests.

Both shaken but unhurt. Officials would not confirm that Camilla was jabbed with a stick, but did say contact was made.

“It is quite clear that these acts were perpetrated not by a small minority but by a significant number of troublemakers. Some students behaved disgracefully but the police also assess that the protests were infiltrated by organised groups of hardcore activists and street gangs bent on violence.” Home Secretary Theresa May told parliament.

Police published a number of security camera images of people they wanted to question in connection with the violence.

There were charges by mounted police and squads of riot officers brought in.

But this did not deter the protesters who fought with police and battered their way into government buildings after parliament approved plans to increase university tuition fees.Thirty-five people have been arrested in connection with the violence.
