Greeks continue protests against fiscal reform

While the Eurogroup ministers were debating the financial future of Greece, in Athens ten thousand people filled the square across from the country’s parliamentary building.

Most want the next package of austerity measures being put forward by the government to be rejected by parliament.

However the EU and the IMF have demanded the fiscal reforms be passed in exchange for the vital funds.

Prime Minister George Papandreou has urged his countrymen to avoid what he called a catastrophic default on Greece’s public debt and back his five year package of tax hikes.

His comments came as parliament began a three day debate ahead of a confidence vote.
