South Africa survived a Samoan storm to reach the Rugby World Cup quarter-finals, winning 13-5 but seeing their line breached for only the second time in the tournament as the Samoans hit them like a hurricane.

All the Springbok’s points came from kicks as the Pacific islanders brought their A-game to Auckland, but all hope was lost after one of their players was red-carded, the first of the tournament.

Wales now just need a single point from the match against fading Fiji on Sunday to qualify.
