He only had to finish in the top six, but Australian Casey Stoner cruised to victory in his home nation’s Grand Prix to seal his second MotoGP world title.

On his 26th birthday, it made for three celebrations in one.

After his nearest rival Jorge Lorenzo pulled out through injury, the win gave Stoner an unbridgeable 65-point lead over the Spaniard with two races left.
