Britain has appointed its first ambassador to Somalia for 21 years. William Hague announced the move during the first visit to the war-stricken nation by a British foreign secretary since 1992.

The new envoy, Matt Baugh, will remain in the Kenyan capital Nairobi until the security situation in Mogadishu improves enough to allow an embassy to open there.
