John Terry was stripped of the England captaincy for a second time in his career on Friday.
The decision to relieve the England defender of his duties as skipper was made by the country’s football Federation.
The decision comes in the wake of Terry’s trial date for racial abuse being set for July – after the Euro2012 tournament.
The 31-year-old Chelsea centre back is awaiting trial after pleading not guilty on Wednesday to a charge of racially abusing Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand during a Premier League match in October.
Terry was previously stripped of the captaincy when coach Fabio Capello removed him from the role in February 2010 following allegations he had an affair with an England team-mate’s ex-girlfriend.
