Senegal’s Sall sets out his political future

Senegal’s Macky Sall has been speaking to euronews about his future as the country’s new president.

Official results confirm his win with 65 percent of the vote, which European observers say was credible and trouble-free.

Given the violent demonstrations prior to the contest, some feared the worst if the result was disputed.

But on the streets of the capital, Dakar, many people see his victory as the start of a new political era.

Political analyst, Jupiter N’Diaye said: “For the first time, we have a president born after independence. The presidents that we’ve had till now have all been connected to our colonial past. But this one, he’s someone born after independence, so it’s a new political era.”

Abdoulaye Wade, Sall’s former mentor has yet to make clear his political plans since conceding defeat but we’ll have an exclusive interview with the president-elect on his programme after this bulletin.
