Syria: UN monitor chief calls for help and cooperation

The Head of the UN ceasefire observers has arrived in Damascus.

Norwegian Major General Robert Mood will be in charge of 30 observers initially, but this number is expected to double in the next few days, before eventually being increased to 300.

However, the numbers themselves are not what is important, according to Mood who said: “Ten unarmed observers, 30 unarmed observers, 300 unarmed observers, even 1,000 unarmed observers cannot resolve all of the problems. I call on everyone to help us and to cooperate with us in this very challenging task ahead of us.”

Meanwhile, observers already on the ground visited the embattled district of Khaldiyeh in the city of Homs, which has been site of much of the fighting between the government and opposition forces.

Amateur footage purports to show the monitors viewing the devastation and watching as activists remove a dead body.
