Super moon reigns over north America

A bigger and brighter moon lit up the sky across the north American continent.

The anomaly, known as a ‘perigee’, means the moon appears up to 14 per cent bigger and almost 30 per cent brighter as it gets closer to Earth.

A large number of people descended on Griffith Park Observatory in Los Angeles to get a clear view.

Sushil Sapre drove over a hundred miles, he said:

“I’m coming here from San Diego and I saw that the local weather over in San Diego is pretty cloudy. I didn’t want to miss the event of I would say, this decade probably.”

Scientists have dismissed the idea that perigee could cause strange behaviour like natural disasters.
