Spain’s ‘Indignados’ gathered in Madrid’s Puerta del Sol square on Saturday to mark the first anniversary of the birth of the movement.

Estimates for the amount of people taking part range from 45-200,000.

Protests were also held in other Spanish cities, denouncing capitalism and social inequality.

Another three days of demonstrations are planned and although some fear the police will intervene, they say they are determined to occupy the famous square until Tuesday.

The ‘indignados’ are made up of people angry about Spain’s financial situation, austerity and unemployment.

The movement has been a source of inspiration for Occupy gatherings around the world including Wall Street and London.
