Belgium’s big babies

Armelle weighed just over four kilograms when she was born one day ago.

She is one of a growing number of bigger babies; newborns who weigh more than four kilos at birth.

According to a study in Belgium, one in 12 babies is now born around this weight – 50 per cent more than in 2005.

It is thought the main cause is gestational diabetes.
