A senior Kenyan cabinet minister and his deputy have been killed in a helicopter crash near the capital, Nairobi.
George Saitoti was Internal Security Minister and a candidate for a presidential election expected to be held by March next year. He was also the leading government voice against Somali militants, al Shabaab.
It is unclear what caused the crash in which Saitoti’s deputy, Orwa Ojode and at least one other person also lost their lives.
The blue police helicopter came down in a forest.
