So the Czech Republic kept alive their hopes of reaching the knockout phase with a 2-1 win over Greece.

Let’s have an in-depth look at how this group A clash unfolded at the Miejski stadium in Wroclaw.

A makeshift central defense with Kyriakos Papadopoulos and Kostas Katsouranis had no time to adjust as Michal Bílek’s men grabbed a third-minute lead courtesy of a clinical finish from Petr Jiracek.

Wolfsburg winger Vaclav Pilar added another three minutes later.

The 23 year old scored his second goal of the tournament, beating Greek defenders to a ball sent across the goal by team-mate Theodor Gebre Selassie.

Greece were then handed a lifeline when Theofanis Gekas capitalised on a Petr Cech blunder eight minutes after the break but the 2004 champions were unable to salvage a point against a determined Czech side, who’ll be hoping for a repeat of 1996 when they reached the final despite losing their opening match.
