Hometown support for Egypt presidential hopefuls

Two villages important to both of Egypt’s presidential candidates, but only separated by eight kilometres show the deep divide in opinion over who the job should go to.
 
Al Odwa is the birthplace of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Mohammed Morsi. 
 
Seen as liberal and favoured by the military regime, Ahmed Shafiq comes from Kotaifa Moubasher.
 
One man from Morsi’s hometown says before the revolution, no one could speak freely, but now they will not stay silent when facing injustice.
  
Another Al Odwa resident calls Morsi her son, son of the whole village and says he is the only one that is good for Egypt.
 
Unsurprisingly, there is also strong support former military man Shafiq in his place of birth – Kotaifa Moubasher. 
 
“Shafiq will represent Egypt, establish security and work in the interest of the country. He’s a good man for the job,” according to Issam Hamed who is the candidate’s a close relative.
 
Another woman living in Kotaifa Moubasher explained why she is backing Shafiq.
 
“Our country needs somebody like Shafiq. We need somebody who has experience and knows how to manage the country. Someone who knows where our strengths and weaknesses lie. What Egypt really needs is Ahmed Shafiq,” she said.
