Spain 2 – 0 France: How it happened

Spain once again came through a potentially tricky tie at Euro 2012 without hitting top gear.

Starting with no strikers Spain relied on their pacey left and right backs to support the midfield in attack.

Jordi Alba brought life to an otherwise unspectacular game against the French when after a darting run down the left he easily picked out an unmarked Alonso – who celebrated his 100th appearance for his nation with a clinical header at the far post.

The midfielder coolly converted a penalty in stoppage time for his second to give the holders a straight forward win.
