Turkey sends military convoys to Syria border

Ankara is flexing its muscles by sending troops and military vehicles towards the border with Syria which last week shot down a Turkish warplane.

The deployment, including anti-aircraft guns and rocket launchers, is the latest sign of tension between the two neighbours.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan says Turkey is not planning a retaliatory strike but he has warned that it will react to any Syrian threat approaching the border.

Turkey rejects claims from Damascus that its forces had no option but to fire on the F-4 jet over Syrian waters close to the coast last Friday. Ankara says the aircraft was an unarmed reconnaissance plane flying over international waters. Its crew is still missing.
