The DAX opened lower on Tuesday morning, after news that Germany could potentially lose its AAA rating.

The fall on the Frankfurt exchange comes after Moody’s changed its outlook for Germany, the Netherlands and Luxembourg to “negative” from “stable”, citing an increased chance that Greece could leave the euro zone.

The ratings agency is also concerned that Germany will have to support weaker euro-region members like Spain and Italy.

However, German Chancellor Angela Merkel says the country will remain Europe’s haven during the financial crisis.
