Olympic diaries: Bolt ready to defend titles

Jamaican triple Olympic champion Usain Bolt announced on Thursday he was fully fit for his historic bid to defend his 100 and 200m titles in London.

Despite weeks of concerns, the 25 year old, who holds the world record in both events, told journalists he was feeling fine and looking forward to the Games.

Four years ago at the Olympic Stadium in Beijing, Bolt emerged as a superstar but the rise to fame of fellow countryman Yohan Blake is likely to make his task harder this summer.

The 22-year-old, who clocked an impressive time of 9.75 seconds to take victory in the Jamaican trials in July will be one to watch, but certainly not the only challenger to Bolt’s crown.

Justin Gatlin, who took gold in 2004, returned from a four-year doping ban to run 9.80 in the U.S. trials while his compatriot Tyson Gay has also run under the 10 second barrier and is likely to be in the final on August 5.
