Australian Federal Police said on Tuesday that they have smashed an international drug ring after seizing half a tonne of heroin and crystal meth.

Three Hong Kong nationals and three Australians have been arrested.

The drugs were found in two shipments of terracotta pots from Thailand, but police say they may have been produced elsewhere.

The bust follows an eleven month investigation sparked by a tip-off from US authorities.

The drugs have an estimated street value of
500 million Australian dollars, or 428 million euros.
