Simone Gennai (CERN): “Without the Marie Curie fellowship I could not have finished my research on the Higgs boson”

In our episode on Nobel Prizes we met some young scientists whose research is sponsored by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions for research training and mobility.

However, did you know that 30 scientists supported by this European Union’s fellowship were involved in the recent discovery of the Higgs Boson, the so-called ‘God Particle’?

We talked to one of them, Italian Simone Gennai, through Skype. In this short interview, he explains why the Marie Curie fellowship is important to researchers – and the work they carry out. He also gives his thoughts on the recent “brain drain” trend, where the bright young things in Europe are upping sticks in the hope of finding better prospects in Asia.
