Eurozone trade rises

Trade volumes for the eurozone rose in the first six months of this year according to the latest EU figures.

Exports were up by eight percent from the same period last year while imports rose two percent.

That reflects relatively weak domestic demand for goods.

The region’s trade surplus swung from a deficit of 23 billion euros in the first half of last year to a surplus of 26.2 billion.

Analysts said that was a clear sign that austerity and structural economic reforms are working.
