Several killed, dozens hurt in Turkey car bomb

At least eight people are reported killed and sixty wounded in a car bomb attack in southeastern Turkey, about 50 kilometres from the Syrian border.

The attack happened near a police station in the town of Gaziantep, where Turkey has opened a centre to receive aid for Syrian refugees.

The device was said to have been remote controlled. Reports of a second explosion were denied.

According to the local mayor several vehicles caught fire including a bus. Three of the victims were inside, he said. Police officers were among the injured.

Southeastern Turkey with its majority Kurdish population has been a battleground for PKK separatists, although Gaziantep has been largely spared and no-one immediately claimed responsibility for this attack.
